14U SOFTBALL

At the 14U level, coaches increase the instructional focus on softball strategies and tactics while continuing to reinforce the fundamental skills. Players continue to use a 60’ base path but are introduced to a 43’ pitcher’s mound distance at this level. Advanced rules are called with some alterations based on league participation.

14U Softball is the most competitive level of baseball in Lancaster Youth Baseball and Softball.  Most players in 14U will be 13 and 14-years-old, although qualified 12 year-olds may also be drafted onto 14U teams if they meet the player assessments.

Developmental Guidelines for 14U Softball

Players entering 14U Softball should be able to demonstrate the following skills:

  • Players entering 14U have demonstrated command of the basic skills of softball (fielding, catching, throwing, batting and base running). They also understand appropriate actions in game situations, such as when and where to make put-outs, how to steal bases, how to tag-up on fly balls, and how to execute cut-offs.

Players who don’t meet the developmental guidelines for 14U, should remain in 12U for an additional season.
